Operationalising ideas. I can’t stop talking about this concept, so I wrote it down.
He is charismatic. She is a doer. He is calm.
What do these words mean?
Textbook definitions are not useful. What is useful, is operationalizing these traits.
To operationalize a trait, focus on what a person with that trait does.
Operationalizing “charismatic”:
A charismatic person smiles when people walk in
He changes emphasis and tonality when speaking
He remembers people's names
He asks people about themselves
He nods multiple times when they respond
He keeps eye contact when they talk
He addresses everyone in the room when exiting and entering
Operationalizing “doer”:
A doer takes action
He doesn’t overthink
He knows how to prioritize
He relentlessly works on the priority stuff
He pushes through obstacles
He takes extreme ownership
If I do what a charismatic person does, I become charismatic.
If I do what a doer does, I become a doer.
If I do what a __ does, I become a __.
PS: I learned about this concept from Alex Hormozi. He is talking about it here. (< 1 min). The charismatic definition is copied from this talk.
